Behind the scenes: creating this bespoke flamenco mural in a spanish-style eatery in miami
My favorite Miami eatery - El Carajo, a tapas restaurant!
During the 2020 shutdown, I was commissioned by Javier Fonseca of El Carajo, Miami's iconic dining location in Miami, to create a flamenco themed mural for the feature wall in the restaurant's bakery. As this was commissioned in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, this mural was installed at night when the restaurant was shut.
"I painted the majority of the design in my studio; I then applied the finished artwork on to the walls in the restaurant"
Working overnight, I created the eye-catching mural by adding elements I had pre-painted in my Miami studio, to complete the theatrical effect. I also restored murals in the restaurant, as well as painting a patina in the bar area, before adding a border design, inspired by the Alhambra Palace, in Granada, Spain.
As a final touch, I created my own Covid masks based on the mural as a novelty.
